Booth Maintenance
Proper equipment maintenance is a major step
in becoming a successful paint technician and automotive body
shop.
Before painting
- Before driving vehicle into the booth make
sure that you blow off the walls and floor with compressed
air toward the exhaust filters while the booth is turned
on.
- After blowing the booth off with compressed
air close the doors and allow the booth to run for at least
5 minutes. This will allow all the dust particles floating
in the air to settle on the exhaust filters and not on the
car.
- DO NOT wet the booth floor or walls before
painting, because it is possible that it can cause fish
eyes. (Car tires are usually full of tire dressing. So if
you wet the floor as water evaporates it will make the tire
dressing air born and can contaminate the panels that are
being painted.)
Filters
- Down Draft Spray Booths:
Intake filters in a down draft booth should be checked every
6 months. Replacement of filters will depend on the amount
of cars painted in the booth per week or month.
Exhaust filters should be checked at least 1 time a week.
Replacement will depend on the amount of cars painted in
the booth per week.
- Conventional Spray Booths:
Intake filters in a conventional cross flow booth should
be checked at least 1 time per month. Replacement of filters
will depend on the amount of cars painted in the booth per
week or month.
Exhaust filters should be checked at least 1 time per week.
Replacement will depend on the amount of cars painted in
the booth per week.
Note: Regardless of which type of paint booth
you have, maintaining intake and exhaust filters in good working
condition will allow for better air flow producing a quality
job and also prolonging the life of the booth.
